Many people view the start of a new year as a time for self-reflection and making changes. People do things like switch careers, lose weight, or spend more time with family. Are there changes you’d like to make? Do you like the appearance of your teeth? If you’re not satisfied with your smile, there’s a great solution to help change your teeth cosmetically.
What Are Porcelain Veneers?
Porcelain veneers are thin porcelain shells designed to cover only the front surface of your teeth. You can change the color, size, and shape of your teeth. Veneers are resistant to staining and look like natural teeth.
Porcelain Veneers Can Help:
- Slightly misaligned, irregularly shaped, or uneven teeth
- Gapped teeth
- Chipped, worn, or broken teeth
- Stained or discolored teeth
Getting Porcelain Veneers
Consultation — At this visit, we will examine your teeth, look at x-rays, and maybe take impressions of your teeth. You can share with us how you want your teeth to look. We’ll use the information gathered at the consultation to see if veneers are right for you. Then, we’ll discuss the procedure and make a treatment plan.
Preparation — We take off a small amount of enamel to prepare for placement of the veneers. Then, we send impressions to our lab along with your custom shade for processing. It can take two to four weeks for delivery of your veneers.
Bonding — We examine and make adjustments to the veneer. Before bonding, we clean, polish, and etch your tooth. Etching makes the surface of the tooth rough for cementation. We put cement on the veneer and position it on the tooth. A special light hardens the cement. Finally, we make adjustments.
We may ask you to return in two weeks to check your gums and the veneers. Porcelain veneers are durable and can last seven to 15 years. Take care of them by brushing twice daily and flossing once daily. Do you want to find out if porcelain veneers are right for you? Contact our office today to schedule a consultation.
