TMJ/TMD

TMJ/TMD

Millions of American adults suffer from chronic facial pain, such as jaw pain, headaches or earaches. The source of these aches and pains may be related to one or both of the temporomandibular (TM) joints. TMJ stands for the temporomandibular joint, which connects the lower to the upper jaw. When the TMJ becomes misaligned or inflamed, it is considered a disorder of the TMJ, or TMD. We have extensive experience treating patients for the pain associated with TMD and offer a number of ways to make symptoms disappear. If you’re ready to find relief for your TMD symptoms, let us help alleviate your chronic pain.

Symptoms of TMJ/TMD:

  • Headache and earache
  • Neck ache and shoulder ache
  • Tender or swollen face
  • Jaw popping or clicking
  • Pain while chewing, speaking, yawning, swallowing, even smiling

Sleep Apnea

Persistent snoring is just one of the symptoms of a condition known as sleep apnea. Those who suffer from apnea are likely to experience other health conditions and potential risks. If you are suffering from this breathing disorder, Dr. Marcus offers a consultation to help determine your risk level for Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). Our goal is to provide a solution that will allow you to sleep soundly at night and be productive during the day.

What are symptoms of OSA?

  • Snoring
  • Dry mouth or sore throat
  • Morning headaches
  • Restless sleep
  • Frequent awakening at night
  • Constant exhaustion
  • Moodiness and irritability
  • Inability to focus

Airway Orthodontics

Airway Orthodontics

Airway Orthodontic Treatment

An effective solution for sufferers of sleep apnea is orthodontics. In many cases, braces allow us to permanently open the airway, allowing you to breathe freely at night.

  • Many people are born with an undersized dental arch. We can use orthodontics to expand the size of the dental arch, which helps everything else involved in breathing fall into place.
  • The tongue is another factor that can lead to airway obstruction; this is most evident in people who sleep on their backs. As a result of gravity, the tongue naturally falls towards the back of the throat. With an ample dental arch, there is plenty of room in the mouth to accommodate the tongue. Without it, the tongue is forced back far enough to block the airway.

“The body can live three weeks without food, three days without water, but only three minutes without air! Your brain will do anything to keep you breathing even if it means misaligning your jaw or neck or waking you up at night over and over again.”  ~ Dr. Marcus

Dental Implants

If you’re missing teeth or struggling with ill-fitting dentures, implants may be the perfect solution for you. Dental implants are a popular choice for patients who have teeth removed or have difficulty eating what they want. The advantages of implants are plentiful, including these unique benefits:

  • They are as permanent and stable as natural teeth
  • No adhesives, cleaning tablets, or other accoutrement
  • Helps prevent bone loss and protects facial bone
  • Eat the food you want, no matter how crunchy or chewy
  • Speak, laugh, and smile with confidence

Not only are dental implants an effective tooth replacement option, they are more comfortable and versatile when compared to alternative solutions. Consult with Dr. Marcus today to see if you’re a good candidate!

Dental Implants
Technology Redefined

We believe in securing the latest dental technology to help our team provide the most efficient and accurate results. We are committed to creating the ultimate patient experience with the use of state-of-the-art equipment. Using these tools to enhance our patient care has helped our team provide comfortable dentistry with beautiful results for over five decades.

LANAP LASER

Dr. Marcus uses the PerioLase® MVP-7™ laser to remove bacteria and diseased tissue in the patient’s pocket. Since the light from the PerioLase® MVP-7™ is not absorbed by healthy tissue, bone, water, or root, laser gum surgery is far less invasive for the patient. LANAP® does not require the use of a blade, or sutures. It is a minimally invasive surgery that results in very little recession and pain for the patient. The laser operates at a wavelength that can tell the difference between the diseased tissue and the healthy tissue. This means that the laser is extremely safe and selective when being used in surgery. For the first time, we can remove the diseased tissue and bacteria from your gums without harming, cutting, or removing healthy tissue!

i-CAT™

We are proud to offer our patients the latest in dental technology — including our Cone Beam CT Imaging System. This innovative technology provides us with precise, panoramic, 3-D images of both soft tissue and hard, allowing us to diagnose and treat with unparalleled accuracy. Not only are patients exposed to less radiation than typical x-rays, it also helps diagnose TMD, place dental implants, diagnose sleep apnea airway problems, and prepare for more extensive procedures.

CEREC

If you have decay or imperfections, CEREC is just the thing for you. Not only are the results natural-looking and lasting, they are created and placed in a single office visit, which means you can enjoy a same-day smile. Dr. Marcus uses an anesthetic to ensure that you’re comfortable as your teeth are prepared. An optical impression is taken and our in-house acquisition and milling units are used to create your CEREC reconstruction. Dr. Marcus will bond your reconstruction directly to your tooth and then shape and polish the ceramic to ensure a natural fit and look.

JVA (JOINT VIBRATION ANALYSIS)

Dr. Marcus is able to pinpoint the issues you may be experiencing through the use of a BioJVA™ Joint Vibration Analysis. This practice helps identify disturbances that match up to various types of dysfunction found on the Piper scale of jaw joint dysfunction. The technology of the Bio JVA measures movement in a 4-dimensional space through a series of extremely sensitive sensors, often times recognizing pathology that cannot be found with palpation alone.

3D PRINTER

We use the advanced capabilities of the SprintRay 3D printer for our specialized restorative procedures. This technology allows us to control costs, increase office efficiency, and expand the scope of our service offerings. Known as the gold standard in the dental industry, this cutting-edge technology delivers fast and accurate results each and every time.

VELscope

Oral cancer screening is critical as a preventative measure for your overall well-being. At Marcus Dental Practice, we take the necessary steps to ensure your health is a top priority. We use the award-winning VELscope® Vx Enhanced Oral Assessment System for the enhanced visualization of oral mucosal abnormalities, such as oral cancer or pre-malignant dysplasia.

I’ve been going there for almost 30 years. Fantastic. I still travel from the suburbs to use this practice. Always professional, responsive and full of solutions. I wouldn’t go anywhere else.

Mark F.

I am not a fan of dental procedures of any kind. However, after visiting the office of Dr. Michael Marcus DDS, my fear of dental work will become a thing of the past. Upon my initial visit, I was amazed at how the staff and Dr. Marcus operate like a family. It felt like being invited into someone’s home where your comfort and experience is their number one concern. The initial exam/screening was extremely thorough and every step was explained in detail. During the process they would check to make sure I was comfortable and not experiencing any pain or nervousness. Totally helped this wimp feel super relaxed. I’m looking forward to my fears subsiding and many years of visiting this awesome dental office.
